Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation- freeing of slaves. Document was read to the slaves in the south by the Union forces
After Emancipation Proclamation blacks rushed to enlist for the war to help. And 200,000 african americans joined
Slaves immediately set out for other parts of the U.S immediately
Some slave owners ran away and left their slaves with no food or clothing
Settlements were made for ex-slaves that were homeless
During the war mini balls were created causing more casualties
The rifle was a weapon that was commonly used
Those in war eventually could write to their family
When they attacked they wanted to attach the capital

Politically
The Ku Klux Klan early in reconstruction, would burst into the homes of black people and tell them not to vote for any Carpetbaggers. They would intimidate them and their families.
North eventually (later into war) went into total warfare and destroyed everything causing South to surrender and burn their own stuff.
Since Lincoln lead the North in the Civil War and they won that helped him win his election.
A week after the war ended Lincoln was assassinated.
